Looking Glass -- Brandy

So, Snowdon and Piggot have been a little wishy washy the last few months ... and here's the latest: Looking Glass's song Brandy.

Watch it on YouTube at http://youtu.be/N-tRXewCAmU

Listen to the smoothness, but be careful of the hirsute character of the Looking Glass musicians.

Plus, Brandy is serving whiskey. And, brandy, we suppose. Where's the vodka? The gin?

Gordon Lightfoot -- Sundown

So, William Piggot recently got a Lightfoot Jones and crept down his backstairs to his vinyl basement to dig this little gem out of the Yacht Rock archives: Gordon's Lightfoot's SUNDOWN.

Hey ... wow. Andrew Snowdon will admit that he forgot ALL about this little ditty. And, yacht rock or not, its freaking fabulous. Snowdon will admit that lyrics like "faded jeans" and an album cover of G-Foot sitting on a bale of hay doesn't gain him many points. Yet ... yet ...

This just makes us FELL sooooo good. Whatday'all think? We need help on this one!

Band on the Run

Hmmmm. Head scratcher for ya. Wings. Band on the Run.

I mean, smooth in parts, but also a bit Baroque and bombastic.

A great song, but I think the verdict of Snowdon and Piggot is ... close, but no.

Fool If You Think It's Over

Fool, if you think it's over. It's just started.

Piggot and Snowdon have gotten together for a Saturday evening cocktail and some more smooth sounds to plan their Summer of Yacht! Steeley Dan at Foxwoods this summer is the keynote event for Summer of Yacht.

So, if you thought Yacht Rock was over, then you would be the fool.

And, speaking of fool, I dare you to not be moved by the smooth, silken sounds of Chris Rea.

Sentimental Lady - Bob Welch

Andrew Snowdon was manning the blogosphere late one night recently when he got this cross-country missive from William Piggot sailing off the coast of Maine:

Nothing is more Yacht Rock Gold then this little nugget. The name alone, Bob Welch, poses the question of "who the hell is that?" while the song title begs thoughts of "oh, wait, I think I know that!"

The unmistakable album cover, easily spotted in the vinyl section at your favorite Goodwill, is sleazy, easy, ride-ready, and most of all, smooooth. I give you: "Sentimental Lady."

Yacht? Oh yeah!

Hall and Oates -- Say It Isn't So

So, what's the deal with Hall and Oates? Their big heyday was in the 80's not the 70's, but smooth hits was their middle name.

Check out this vid for Say It Isn't So. Awesomely smooth.

And check out this article from NY Magazine about how freakin' cool are. To quote:

The duo has recently become a cultural Rorschach test. In the last five years, new media and morphing demographics have changed the longtime perception of Hall & Oates as a symbol of slick, overproduced eighties pop to, variously, great American songsmiths on a par with Lerner and Loewe, master studio craftsmen who wrought our very sonic firmament, and—to a broad and fervid demographic—the epitome of True Pop Values.
